Kobelco knew the motors they were using, hino, didn't and couldn't pass emissions from before they ever built the plant in SC. They always thought they could get a waiver but that fell through so they closed the plant... Kobelco is half Japanese half Chinese...

The high and low spots in the cylinder walls are abrasive to the rings, break in is seen as more honing. Race motors use thin light rings and don't have time to seat like thick heavy rings do...

We advised you to use 60g's for a very good reason, use other brands at your own risk.
Your extended first start of the day doesn't point towards the glow plugs, it could be several things, glow time needs extended, fuel is draining back, etc...
On the head work area, the most worthy gains are on the exhaust side, better turbo drive is a plus. The exhaust can show much bigger flow gains than intake if done right...
