External oil cooler vs internal rad one....

any chance the rows in the fresh core are smaller that before it was re-cored? Just because it's a 4 row doesn't mean anything if the rows are so small they end up restricting flow. Now i'd think the rows in the diesel rads would be larger since the diesels need a ton of flow to keep cool...

External oil cooler vs internal rad one....

could probably offload that rad to someone with a gasser GMT-400. I'm sure it'd cool one of those just fine. There's got to be something wrong, but i can't blame you for getting sick of working on these trucks. I was at the breaking point with my K-5, but i know at the same time no one would...

External oil cooler vs internal rad one....

Kenny the only think of is perhaps the radiator is "too thick" and the air can't get through it well enough. Either that or you've got air in the cooling system. I can't believe that rad would be that much worse, especially if it really is a true re-core. That would tell me it's very clean...

External oil cooler vs internal rad one....

Damn it. I've got a few 6.2 rads here with the coolers in them. The oil coolers were fine, the core was pissing on one and the driver's side tank has a small crack in the other radiator. Guess it's too late now.

External oil cooler vs internal rad one....

Kenny were you able to get the oil cooler installed in the re-cored radiator? I looked at mine today when changing my heater hoses so i could route them away from the turbine housing. It looks like a 6 "plate" or "fin" oil cooler in the radiator. This one is def a 4 core though, 4 clear rows...

    Uh oh!!!

Your sure it's engine oil? You could've busted the flexplate. I'd double those odds if you found a torque converter bolt under the truck. Pull the inspection cover and see.

    IP Weep Hole?

leaking from the weep hole would indicate a bad seal to me. The weep hole is there so the diesel doesn't follow the IP shaft and pour into your oil more or less.

    210 hot or NOT?

The only thing i find interesting is that the older 6.2 bodied trucks the temp gauge was special for the diesel engine(as was the oil pressure gauge). It went 100-200-240, with 200 being in the center and the red starting just before 240. Gasser trucks were a totally different gauge. with...

External oil cooler vs internal rad one....

Not a bad deal at all. Re-cores are pricey so the $500 is expected. If you need the cooler lines that GM used in the 80s let me know. I was going to switch to a 6.5 style cooler, as i have one here, and having the braided stainless lines made up. Now i think i'll be waiting to see which one...

    Harbor Freight Toolboxes/My new snap-on

My father just bought a Kobalt toolbox a few months ago. My nex toolbox will either be a Kobalt or a U.S. General.. The drawers on my father's Kobalt box are rated at 100 lbs a piece, whereas the best Craftsman ones are rated at 1/2 that. My main box is a craftsman ball bearing, and it's...

    Optimizer flywheel bolt question

like they said. When i put my flywheel on i just used blue lock-tite and torque to 60 ft lbs. I know there's 2 different length bolts. The manual flywheel bolts are longer due to the thickness of the flywheel versus how thin the flexplate is for an automatic. I've got 12 point shallow head...

    6.2 air filter CFM question

I had one of the wrapper filters, and boy oh boy did that engine smoke like crazy. The wrap got filthy really fast. I bought a non-wrapped version and the smoke cleared up quite a bit. I've been running the non-wrapped once ever since. Honestly i'd look into an Amsoil Nano-Fiber filter if...

External oil cooler vs internal rad one....

There was a banks charger sitting in the for sale section here. Can't remember who the seller was. I think it was just the charger though, not the entire setup. If you do move the battery to the driver's side and order a tray, order 2. I need a driver's side tray. I can paypal the cash to...

External oil cooler vs internal rad one....

you could be onto something. I"ll get some measurements and pics for you when i get out there. Have to change the rear main today. It's leaking. :prrr: I can tell you the huge 4 core fits right where the 3 core was. No difference in length of the radiator, just thickness.

External oil cooler vs internal rad one....

I've dragged some semi-heavy stuff with my 96. 10K max when you add in trailer weight. Mine never got warm, not even on a 1 1/2 mile long 7% uphill grade. Was able to maintain 50 mph and keep the TCC locked in 3rd, and the temp needle didn't budge. No A/C in mine either. I've always thought...

    Quick Spool Crossover Pipe

Tell me if this makes sense. Asking myself if it makes sense doesn't work so well. :rof: A larger pipe would mean the gasses could cool off and contract. A smaller pipe would mean the gassers cannot cool off as quickly and therefore cannot contract as much. It makes me wonder if...

    Quick Spool Crossover Pipe

FWIW the Banks crossover pipe is ~1 7/8" ID If i remember correctly. It uses a 2" clamp as it's a 2 piece crossover.

DS4 Injector Lines Are Bigger ?

Very interesting. So that's the difference. Looks like the lines and pumps are built around eachother. So would that conversion fittings above work? My curiosity is killing me.

DS4 Injector Lines Are Bigger ?

Agreed. It seems weird to me as well.

DS4 Injector Lines Are Bigger ?

The lines themselves are the same IIRC. At least that's from the outside. One could cut open both a DS4 and a DB2 line to see if the DS4 lines truly are larger internally. The nuts that thread onto the IP are different. The DS4 lines take a 3/4" wrench over the nut. The DB2 lines take a...
