sadly they dubbed over the awesome sound of the 6.2 with some little jap 4 banger diesel. I've seen that episode before. Nice that they used a 6.2, but really sucks that they made it sound like some jap scrap 4 cyl diesel.
I tried to find it on Diesel Power's site but can't find it. I looked at what i thought was the Oct issue and didn't see that in there. May have been the Sept issue i was looking at. Can't remember.
The worst part was i think i encouraged him by saying "that'll never fit on there." LOL. Next thing i know i'm getting a phone call that said "you've gotta see this." :rof:
He got that turbo for dirt cheap. $150, in perfect working condition IIRC. Now you can't touch one for what $3-400?
Dammit.....They really need to use Forum screen-names instead of peoples real names. I"m so used to seeing user names that i look at a real name and go "whos that guy?"
:o
I think that was done way before Diesel Power magazine picked up on it. A friend of mine, Don, had one on his 6.5 burb back in the middle of 2009. I was there in jan '09 when he showed me the turbo on his bench saying "this will fit and work when i'm finished."
Not sure if he was the first...
Not a bad looking compressor at all. I was given an old Devilbiss compressor with no motor a few years ago. Electric motor sheared the shaft in 2 right behind the front bearing. Compressor's fine. Never did anything with it. 60 gallon upright unit.
I've got an old 1940s compressor in my...
x2. The fact of the matter is, what Tazz bought did not work as he was told it would work. That IMO qualifies at "not satisfied/does not work as described".
Coming from someone that has a manual truck with a smaller(exhaust housing wise) non-gated turbo yes the large gaps in the gears(both...
Are those diesel rated oils? You must run a diesel rated oil as the 6.2 and 6.5 really put a lot of soot into the oil. It's evident when you watch how fast it turns black.
I run Amsoil 15w-40 in my 96, with 195K miles on it and there's barely any blowby. My 85 however, with a goodwrench...
yup. My K-5 has the same problem when i pulled the pan down. I didn't start it though. Just cranked it with the IP wire off. Never got pressure, until i pulled a vacuum on the turbo oil feed line to pull the oil into the pickup and into the gears. After the 3rd time i had to rip the pan...
Kenny did you use a gasket?
Ditch the gasket and use RTV. That angle in the pan is a tough bitch to get the one piece gasket to seal. I used RTV on mine, the whole 3-4 times i had it down for my rear main/rear pan leak.
I had a DD starter off my truck which was a factory 700R4 auto, and it worked perfect with the SM465, until a winding shorted somewhere and the starter died.
Also have a GR starter, yet it's a chinese starter(rebuilt with American quality parts), that fits and works perfectly.
Kenny...
There's a special belt adapted from a HD truck for the 6.2 alt belts. Belt number 5725 IIRC. I have the numbers to the belts in my wallet. Going to get another set. The A/C belt on the truck is wrong, and is starting to stretch out to the point of no return. Gates or not, the wrong belt, is...
That's one reason i'm glad my K-5 has a solid pulley. No rubber to fail, but the belts do jump around a bit due to the lack of vibration dampening the rubber in the pulley provides. The rubber dampened crank pulleys came about in ~86 due to the A/C v-belt jumping around so much that it...
There was an article in Diesel Power magazine warning against Holset knockoffs. It seems to just be the holset knock offs are so poorly made that if over-spun they literally explode, as opposed to a genuine holset that will not shoot shrapnel everywhere. Something about the Holset's design...
Could've sworn it was mid-83 as the red blocks were only made in 82. Early 83s were left over red blocks IIRC, but then again GM does some weird things with production.
Hell my rear axle has "11/83" on the gears and "GM83" on the housing, and the trucks an 85.
yup. The Bosch 6.2 longs i bought from another member didn't have the rings on them. They didn't have "turbo set" injectors back then, as the turbo wasn't a factory option, it was a dealer option.
