    Fuel Gelling.

It wasn't 0* where i was yesterday, but it wasn't far off. Maybe 10*. Anyways i think i may have had the same issue, and my fuel was treated. Started the K5 at work to let it run a bit so it wouldnt' be a dead cold start come time to go home. It cranked right over and started up, but ran...

Any info on this "new" engine supplier National Parts LLC?

Hmmmm.... When i read the listing i see this. "This engine will replace any 6.5-L diesel in a GM truck or van." If they knew their stuff, they'd know the heads/intake/exhaust manifolds(up-pipes in the case of the van)/downpipe are totally different from truck to van. Vans are...

    Using Rotella T in a gasser 350?

I run Rotella in Dad's 5.9 gasser dodge and the '71 Camaro with a built 350. Both love it. The dodge was burning 10w-30 so we stepped it up to the 15w-40. Doesn't go through oil as bad now, but i know the valley pan gasket is leaking so that's my burning issue. The 15w-40 just puts it in...

A 6.5 has roots in with it's 2 cycle brethren

my K-5 always hunts and coughs when it's "super cold"(for this area anyways), but that's also a DB2 pump. No electronics to control the idle. Last night it was 15*F and the ol girl started with no block heater, but boy oh boy was she mad. Coughing and sputtering but it cleared up with some...

Impressive to me ATS 6.2 turbo

There's more than one flat on my pump. I'm sure of it. I had it tested and calibrated by Accurate Diesel and i told him to give it plenty of fuel. He asked what plenty was and i said that i wanted a good bit more than Banks recommends and that was that. I'm sure there's at least a 1/2 a...

Want to get rid of oil in the intake

If you do the freeze plug trick no you will not have a SES light. Fooling the ECM when it comes to the EGR circuit is terribly easy. For your vacuum lines you have a T right before the EGR. One side of the T goes to the EGR, the other side goes to the firewall sensor. The third end of the T...

Impressive to me ATS 6.2 turbo

Remember a 6.2 doesn't have the coated pistons from the factory like the 6.5 does. Banks themselves recommends no more than 10 psi sustained and ~1000*F EGT maximum. I can tell you with the Banks/Garrett T04B it's near impossible in my situation(due to 3.08 gears) to get it over 5-6 psi and...

Want to get rid of oil in the intake

The EGR is the main cause of the crud you found in the intake. What happens is you get a slight film of oil due to the CDR being routed back into the intake. The soot from the EGR exhaust gasses sticks to the oil and starts to build up on the intake and it's runners. Clean out the...

some timing issues on a 6.2

Your probably ok then. Check it after the filter's to be sure. I'm running a Holley Blue fuel pump for my lift pump on my K-5 with a Banks T04B turbo setup. Pre-regulator it's probably 15 psi. Post regulator the underhood gauge(so i can only see it at idle or free rev underhood) ranges...

When Suppliers turn bad - a detour from hijacking 94DeiselSub's thread.

That right there would've been a huge red flag for me. I'd have told them to re-do all the bearings(crank, rod, cam) after seeing that, and i'd have inspected it before accepting the engine once the job was re-done.

    85 6.2 no start

85 and up was the exact same GP controller as the 93. 82-84 was the crappy one with the "controller" and the fender mounted relay. My 85 has the gray all in one setup from the factory. To the OP, as far as your problem. Sounds like a bad seal on the restriction switch. May not leak much...

    TSB

Anyone that has access to AllData can look up TSBs. I can't promise i'll get to do it anytime soon at work though. It's our busy time of year with Xmas coming up.

    weird smoke problem with 6.2

Blue smoke is either oil or unburned diesel. Smoking from one side and not the other would tell me it could be a compression related issue that goes away once the motor gets enough compression strokes and heat into the cylinder. typical low comp sign. I'd remove all 8 glowplugs and do a...

more power than a good running power stroke?

i'd be more than happy to deal with the noise. I love the sound of an IDI with a turbo, hell i own two. The whistle is addicting. :D Too bad GM skimped on the block/crank on the 6.2. I'd love to get mine to put out 350-400 hp, but the bottom end wouldn't make it to 250.

    Bad dealings with Teds Trucks!

These are military take outs. While some are removed during the "refresh" program and they are fine, others are/were removed for issues. I wonder if the last engine's Ted's got some duds were mixed in? These aren't new built in house by Teds. A compression test would've shown issues though...

Water in Fuel Light (being really tough to fix)

I think the wire to mine is a pinkish-red wire. There's no green wire going to my tank sending unit IIRC. I'll bet the green wire is the one for the WIF light. All it does is ground out the WIF circuit, turning the light on. Remember, water conducts electricity, diesel does not.

Water in Fuel Light (being really tough to fix)

82-83 the water sensor was in the tank. 84+ it was in the box filter. 82-83 had the twin spin on filters, a better design IMO. The restriction switch was from 84 up to about 88 or so when GM ditched it because the o-ring seal would fail and leak drain the filter about 1/2 way with the...

    What's this noise?

i'm wondering if it's just a "hard" spot in the clutch material. Like brake pads sometimes you'll get a spot that'll squeal when the brakes are applied, which is the pads vibrating more or less. Make the friction material 12" in diameter and and something that size won't speak, it'll groan...

    What's this noise?

There's a pilot bushing so the bushing being of soft metal will crush to dust before the input shaft tip is damaged one would think. Perhaps it's a hard spot in the friction material. There was never a "pop" or anything like that before this noise began. It just started out of no-where...

    What's this noise?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0BuqnkwAxM You can hear it right around 1:33 or so. It's a groaning/moaning sound. I can't figure it out. It started doing it about a week ago after a week of heavy rain/high humidity. It doesn't occur every time. Maybe 50% of the time, and the rest of...
