yeah , I hear ya on the long list of stuff to do. One thing I was worried about with adding motor oil to the fuel was the colder temps we get here in upstate NY , but I guess if you're in alaska and doing it then that answers that question for me. For what reason are you adding it to the fuel?
When I first bought the truck 3 months ago , I disconnected the wiring connector at the lift pump and rigged up a 12v motorcycle battery to the pump to get it running to test (because the ops sensor was bad). when I cracked the water drain t open it was pumping fuel.
I can hear the lift pump running at idle and for a few seconds after I shut the truck down , but nothing when I first get in the truck and turn the key to let the glows cycle. Is this normal? I thought the lift pump was supposed to prime for a few seconds before cranking.
yeah , I've added an ounce of 2-stroke per gallon of fuel I put in to try to alleviate the problem but it doesn't seem to be helping with the hot start. 2-stroke is probly too thin and I'm almost scared to try regular motor oil because although motor oil will burn , its not meant to and will...
Hey all , fairly new to diesels and need some advice. I have a 1993 k3500 dually 6.5 turbo diesel with 128,000 miles. I know I need to replace the injection pump , but just don't have the money right now , so I've been doing the cool water on the IP thing when it gets heat soaked and seems to be...
Got a small voltmeter reading problem with a couple other quirks. I have tested my alternator and it puts out 14.7 volts , but my gauge reads about 12 in the truck. While driving down the road , or idling in the driveway for that matter , it will occasionaly jump up to around 14 volts on the...
Hey , anyone know if getting a replacement cdr valve is a dealer only item? I've tried every local auto parts store and none of them even know what one is. I'm guessing at 127,000 miles , mine still has the factory original. Maybe part of my hard starting problem?
Thanks guys , I appreciate all the info. And no , my voltage doesn't drop after the engine warms up , it starts at about 12 volts , then fluctuates to 14.5 for about 30 seconds to a minute then goes back down to 12. Will do this several times in a short period of time , say thirty minutes or so.
Thanks guys. I'll check the grounds in the morning. When I got more time , we'll get into my hard starting issues!! Replaced glow plugs , ops , fixed leaking fuel filter , new 850cca batteries and still starts harder than it should. Made up a glow plug manual push button and it helps a little ...
Hey Guys,
This is my first post as a new diesel owner,.........So bare with me. I've always been a gas guy and bought my first diesel (1993 chevy k3500 dually). My voltmeter on the instrument panel goes back and forth between 12 and 14.5 volts. Thinking the regulator in the...
