to my knowledge , it is a ticketable offense here in the US but as far as how often....... i personally have never seen or heard of anyone getting nailed for this as much as i'd love to see it.
i start driving like a ****tard when i get stuck behind those people. shoulders become open...
you sure its paint?? i had some superheated grease splatter on a set of wheels i had on my old truck. grease melted the clearcoat and brake dust and burned it into the wheel. i never could get it out. wound up painting the wheels black just to hide it.....
paint is usualy fairly easy to...
first things first.... never never never use starter fluid. these trucks have a grid heater in them and using starter fluid can cause a very big BOOM and a lot more problems than you already have.
as far as testing the injection pump, i would say get it to a dealer or a local knowledgeable...
i cant vouch for the validity of this but iwas told by someone who tunes duramax motors that if/when an egr system begins to fail, the ecm can pick up on that and adjust power/fuel/etc accordingly. it can make the truck actually lose power if your egr fails.
like i said, i heard it second...
only if they have the same re-flash as gm would put in. i cant see anyone legit investing the time to alter software to adjust only cluster voltage. you may try speakin to some guys with efilive, see if they have any capability in this field. if the dealer has to reflash and it is for a known...
some of the early models of gm trucks had issues with defective guage clusters.... what you're describing was often a symptom of that very thing. might check with youyr gm dealer about warranty. i'll see if i can find the tsb that someone posted about it.
not only the lly/lbz.... my lb7 has had it fail 4 times now. dealer replaced under warranty (emissions) which is part of the 100k powertrain warranty. now that i'm over 100k, its on me now.
i run 80 psi in mine all the time. truck is still on stock 245's and always carrying a load.
as far as my setupp, its gonna vary a little. i'm only 2wd so i dont mess with front tire pressures at all...... thats what you're gonna have to experiment with.......,
got a friend running a similar sized tire and wheel on a gmt800 platform. no cranking, minor trimming. a lot of the fitment is gonna depend on the backspace and offset of the wheels you're puttin em on......
i would think with the keys and a little trimming you should be ok. nothing major
pump on these trucks is on the motor. pump is driven by timing belt and it creates a vacuum to pull fuel from tank to pump, and then pressurizes it from there to the reg and then rails. you will not hear it, like tracker said, simply because the pump does not come on till the motor is started...
might just be the amount of sidewall on those tires that causes them to be so squirrely. i've ridden many miles in a truck wearing sand grapplers that are 285/55-20.... much less sidewall and the truck doesn't feel jittery at all.
they do smoke a lot for some reason though.... :D
