Has anyone cleaned an optical sensor?

So recently I had to replace my lift pump due to it failing. As soon as I replaced the pump and drove down the road the truck started skipping and bucking and lost throttle. I read on another forum on how to test the optic sensor by unplugging it and starting the truck. The truck started normal with the sensor unplugged. Now removed sensor cleaned it a little with some acetone and the truck ran fine for a few miles then back to skipping. Is there a better way to clean this sensor or a reliable place to get these?
 
I'm currently waiting for the obd1 USB to read the codes off my laptop but after purging all the fuel lines and injector lines truck makes no difference. If you touch the throttle pedal at all the engine redlines until it's shut off or put into gear
 
Honestly I have never heard of cleaning or replacing the optic sensor with the IP still in the engine, not sure if that is possible without having to re-time the IP. if it was or is visibly dirty, how it the condition of the fuel? these IP's cannot run off from colored fuel like red farm use or fuel that was made from used oil. the optic sensor has to "see" through the fuel if that makes sense.

you should be able to read codes by shorting two pins in the OBD connector and counting the flashes, once you get your scanner in, verify. I made my own connector for my laptop, it's pretty simple to do, and software is available online, free to read and clear codes, but pay for the license and you can do things like timing the IP if ever needed.

Here is a method to read codes by shorting the two pins. although this guide says to short pins A and B, iirc on my 95 I used A and M.

Code 31 is for the EGR.
 
It's running clean fuel and I have the dual fuel filter system installed that keeps my fuel pressure around 15 at idle and 13 cruising. Plus I still have my canister filter on top of the engine. I did manage to pull the optical sensor out and mark exactly where it was and cleaned it with acetone. I've called All of the stanadyne dealer to find a new optic sensor but unfortunately they no longer make them. But for anyone that needs it the stanadyne part number is 33883 and the Alliant power number is AP63549. I'm going to try to find someone with an ultrasonic cleaner to put it in and clean it and run the codes if not gonna continue to find a place that may possibly sell a optical sensor or encoder sensor and stanadyne calls it

Unfortunately my check engine light stopped working a while back as did half my gauges so I had to check it with a flash code reader I most likely counted the flashes wrong but once my cable comes in I will post the actual codes. I bought a obd1 USB from red devil river a few days ago, hoping it comes it soon

One of the pins on the obd connector is for the light. you can probe a test light there to ground and count flashes that way too!

a small ultrasonic cleaner is available on the jungle site for around $40. I use mine a lot. went with the one that has mechanical dials over the digital ones since I hate chineese electronics!
