dawn power disolver from the oven cleaner section works extremly well. it is very mild you do not even have to wear gloves with it. you just need to remove it after 10 minutes or it tends to turn alumimun black in color.

seriously now do not over polish as the coating on the crank is very shallow
i have used cranks in gassers with deeper rust faults without issues even after 100k miles of use.

what kind of tach? an aftermarket gasser tach?? a factory in dash diesel tach?? it makes a difference. but in one word no in most all cases the wrong number of pulses.

you are dealing with some pretty cheap cast iron that does not weld well.
you would need to slow heat the block to about 600 degrees then try o weld it must slow cool or it will crack on you.

there is very little current the sensor is esecencally a coil that creates a electrical pulse when the magnitic reluctor passes by, creating an ac pulse. this pulse then is modified to the various signals needed by the system.

not critizing (sp) that is why it is so important to give all the test info when looking for help on a problem.
the front sensor most likely is good and does not have to be replaced.

unless you have the special test equipt no way to test. except if truck is on jack stands rear wheels turning preferably over 15 mph. using a voltmeter read a/c volts on the sensors. damm dangerous to do unless you make...
