    99 motor in a 95 truck, OBD 1 or 2

    I have a 95 3500 and I was told when I bought it used that it had a 99 motor. It does have dual thermostats so I am assuming it really is a 99. Anyway I have never had the check engine light come on but if it does can I do the paper clip jumper trick or do I need to use an OBD2 tester?
