Just replaced the 93 sensor in the crossover with a 96 sensor, plugged it up and it's been working like a charm since. Thanks for the largely unhelpful replies.

Thanks for the info. The only sensor gathering data on a 93 for glows is the one in the coolant crossover, and it's just a temp switch that opens the circuit around 125° however there is a wire that goes to the starter which will give you longer glow times when cranking.

I think the swap is pretty stupid, he said he did it to do away with the pmd, which is a simple fix, but it seems to be a popular swap.
We got the truck cheap, and it's in good shape, the block is a GM Goodwrench crate with 80k on it. We are just going to drive the wheels off of it until the...
Pretty much bypassing then ecm, the only thing we need it for is glow plugs, abs, and using the factory gauge cluster. It's manual 4x4, and a manual trans.
So what your saying is that the computer actually reads temp for glows on a 96 instead of it just being on/off temperature switches. Also...
My brother just bought a 96 k2500 with a 93 model motor in it, the guy just plucked the motor out of the 93 and sat it down in the 96, so all the accessories etc are 93. I've bought a 96 glow plug controller and jumped the wires for the coolant temp sensor by #8, but the glows still won't come...
Well mines got 210k on it let's hope she hasn't given in. And is perfectly fine when I pull the oil pan seems like that's the only way I can afford to do this. I'm hoping to stay under the 2500 mark so I can afford new suspension parts also.

Thanks for the welcome, I could go for hitting the lotto. Better yet just send me that p400 and write it off as charity lol. I will definitely take a set if the block I decide to use doesn't need punched out.
If my current block isn't cracked, and I used splayed mains would it not be reliable...
No warranty, and they rebuilt it for the military I'm assuming their stickers are on the valve covers, only info I could find about it.
I'm going to be doing all the motor work so all of it will be to my spec :P. Sorry I Should have worded my last post differently.
Thanks for the reply!
Well i have decided that I am not doing a cummins swap it would just take way too much time, and the last thing I need is another project. I am however looking at a military take out 6.5 NA made by Melton, or rebuilt by them... Is this one of the good cast motors or is there no way of telling...
Are there any forum members that still deal with these motors I found one on a government auction site, but that's all so far. Thanks

Ouch, that's worse than I thought... I'm sure its worth every penny, but I can't justify It. My opinion would be a lot different if I had maybe 15k or $30k in my truck, but in its current state I have about $3500 in it.
Thanks for the replies.

Thanks for the Welcome, and reply!
Thats more along the lines of what I was hoping/thinking. Getting a new block would definitely be the smart way to go. Just Pricey IMHO the p400s run about 5k dont they?
Well that's not what I wanted to hear lol, but Its a whole lot better to know that now. Guess I'll just rebuild it back stock, cause there is no way I'm going to put that much money into an idi motor when I could do a Cummins swap making 300 hp for the same price or less even though I'd prefer...
Well I bought my truck last summer, and after installing a set of rebuilt injectors, I found its time for a rebuild. My plans are within the next couple of months to gather up all the parts, then start building. I'm hoping for about 250-300 hp reliable daily driver/hauler, but I'm not sure if...
