I agree that the stock GM-x series turbos are not worth messing with. I have plenty of used Holsets setting around and could set you up with one for your truck. An hx40 is a great choice for a one and done turbo on these engines.
@Will L., I most definitely agree to that. And @DieselAmateur yes it has been hot enough out here for sure. I like to always say that Arizona is the ultimate test for a cooling system. I got money I need to spend in other departments on this unit yet, so I'm ok with keeping the mechanical fan...
DieselAmateur, do you have a picture of the 2886 fan clutch? I just did a bunch of work to my Suburban including installing a new 2886 fan clutch I bought from RockAuto that I swear is either the wrong fan clutch boxed in a 2886 box or a dud since it has not engaged or have heard it engaged...
I have one I got with a 98 parts engine. It looked quite clean as well as the eight fuel injector lines attached to it. I used the lines for my 99 Suburban. Pump looks like it has less than 20k miles on it but I have no history on it...
