Ford/ New Holland 6.6L

all i have to say is that both of you guys are sick.... i love the idea of the 6.6 being dropped into big blue, and the 6.6 into a f100 is goin to be absolutely badass.....:hail::thumbsup:

It would be great if I could get some sponsoring, then I could get it all done right, and NHRA legal. A fast truck needs to have a lopey idle too, and I'd have that covered.:cool:
I just got a lopey cam for the 300 that's in the F100 now....just for the fun of it. The main purpose of my 6.6 is hot rod style. Ford engine, the lope, it's not a Cummins 6BT, and it's rediculously big for a 4000 pound truck(5000 after the swap).:thumbsup:
 
That was one of the main reasons I went with this motor. Its similar to the Cummins, but its not. Plenty of guys out there that will say "just put a Cummins in it" at the drop of a hat. I didn't want that. Don't get me wrong, I love me a good Cummins(except the ISX), but I'd much rather have something that will stick out from the usual crowd. I wouldn't mind getting that 6.6 to lope :D That outa keep the veins on the VGT clean.

It's beggin to get fired up!
To make it lope, just get .120 injector lines.....and make sure the timing is plenty high too, like above 19*.
 
Well I do just happen to have two charged batteries sitting in the shop I pulled from my new 1500 that outa get her rolling...:Justwait2: I suppose a few cables and some fuel wouldn't hurt.:eek:

Gotta fix the fuel line going from the distribution block to the filter, it got a nast bite on the way out of the frame. Kinda like the transmission filter did on the way out of the bus chassis!
 
I wouldn't miss putting a video up of that thing. With the exception of the video I posted above of that F600 "For Sale" idling thats the only thing I can find 6.6 I6 related.

Damn you Nevrenuffhp. Got me looking at 6.6 stuff again when I should be finishing up the old girl. Looking at transmissions again had me considering a Dana 6 speed, Spicer 6 or 6+1, or an Eaton 6 speed. Since almost all of the medium duty transmissions out there lack an OD gear I did a little math. If my calculations are correct, Big Blue, sitting on 35" tires, with a 3.73 gear ratio(has it right now in the AAM rear) in 1:1 trans and 1:1 T-case at 65mph equals "2327.52rpm" Not to shabby at all:thumbsup:

That's what we're here for, to encourage each other. I got pumped up by the post telling us we were sick. I actually started thinking of keeping the ol 300 in my pickup and add a magnacharger, auto trans, and be done with it. Now, I'm re-focused on 6.6 and AT545, and Sterling with 3.08s. Hydrobooost, 3/4 ton front spindles(12.5" rotors& dual piston calipers), sway bars, and power steering round out the small stuff.
 
well im glad i could provide some motivation for ya... i just cant wait to see it completed.... could you imagine doing that to my yukon :reddevil:
 
You and me both. I've had my ups and downs and occasionally walking in to my garage with the thought of selling the motor and trans.(trans is getting sold anyway lol), but this past "spur" of conversation has indeed got me pumped up at the swap again.

I know that 6.6 will hold up pretty well in Big blue. I have alot more clearance thanks to the solid axle, and with some beefing up, the 3 linked Dana 60 will take that extra 500 or 600ish pounds with ease. Brace the frame here and there and change out the coils to keep the ride height and quality the same as well. Then you factor in the rotors on the Dana 60 and AAM 11.5", which both have dual piston calipers, it will not only be able to go fast, but I know I will feel comfortable being able to stop it with no trouble at all.
 
well i guess im just a good motivator, now if only i could motivate myself to get the money together to get the SAS down on mine and then itll be time for an engine swap... havent decided what engine to use but im really loving your idea
 
I'll be honest with you, a solid axle swap is a whole lot easier than people make it seem. Some of the more expensive kits out there can have the swap done with as little as 3" of additional lift over stock, and for trucks either 4wd or 2wd. I choose to make my own, using leaf springs over a Dana 44HD, but now, in my buildup I'll be running a Dana 60 with a modified 4 link or inverted 3 link. If you can weld and drill holes, you can do it. Biggest thing is getting all the parts together and getting things rebuilt. Both the front axles I bought where used, and hadn't been touched at all in over 30 years. Toughest part was rebuilding them. As far as an engine goes, your creativity is the limit. I've seen a guy make a mid engine LS1/6 speed in an Integra. I found on Ebay a few days ago a 318CID Detroit 2 stroke(the old screamin Demon), coupled to a Fuller 13 speed going for $1500. He claims everything runs and its only like 2 hours away from me.

how long do you think it would take to do the sas on my truck if i get the kit from oru? cuz im waiting on word bout a new job makin bout twice what i make now so hopefully itll happen sooner rather than later... would love to have that done by next winter
 
Try starting up your own thread about it. Another member here, "Joey D" did a solid axle swap as well. Only, his truck was already a 4x4 when he did the swap. Mine was 2wd. So as far as time, what works and what doesn't, and who to buy what from he may be a better source. Not to mention his truck just looks kick ass with a solid axle. These Chevys look unbelievable looking sitting on a solid axle with 37's.

Oh, look... google 6.6/7.8 differences, takes me to the first page... register, scroll to page4.. and Dale strikes again.. lol...

So apparently from your first page, the length of a 6.6 and the length of A 7.8 ARE THE SAME, (fricking caps) and the only major difference is the 7.8 is P pumped from the git go?

Hmm... makes me wanna go with the local one to me, cause either way its a win win.
 
According to my service manual, the only difference between the 7.8 and the 6.6 is the stroke length. Ford / New Holland made it taller to accommodate for the additional stroke length.

Will do on the intro, yeah, that was as trailer behind, truck was on 40" Hawgs in that pic, trailer on 39.5" Iroks... :D
