I have repeatedly been told that the Walbro FRB5 is the best Lift Pump for our trusty 6.5TD. This is what I plan on using in my truck when I start getting the funds to fix it up. The real question I have on this is how many folks on here are actually using this pump?

How many folks want to use it in the future?

Why is their only one vendor that we can purchase this LP at?

Which is here;

http://lubricationspecialist.com/front/shop.aspx?catid=10&parentid=0&productid=74

Please give me and everybody else on here all the input you have on this LP.

I also plan on using a pre-LP filter and curious what everybody else is using?

Thanks,

I've got one and I found it here back in February:
[autoperformance engineering FRB-5, got it with fittings. No pre filter, just installed it where the old one died. Still working great, more pressure than the '93 HO version by Carter I picked up from an auto parts store back in November (it died quickly). I put in a relay to drive it (controlled by the OPS).

staff edit direct hot link that competes with paying vendors that sell similar product removed

I've had mine for a couple of years now and love it. My pre-lift pump filter is permacool's equivalent of the nicktane from the old site. It takes the CAT 1R-0749 2 micron filter.

If Leroy carries this LP he does not advertise it on here or his website. I wish he did carry it! ):h

It's been almost 3 years since my last buying of a filter, so price may be up now, I always buy in pairs when I change them, 1 to put on, and another for a spare to use when the vac switch says I need to change it, (I carry spares as you never know when you come across a bad load of fuel).

I no longer change filters though just because they might be dirty due to miles or age, last one that was on there was on about 5 years, I changed it because the body was getting rusty, and I didn't want a filter blowing a seam.

OK this is what I have found. The guy at Orileiy's quoted me full blown retail. I don't buy from them, but do call sometimes to see what prices/parts are going for.TD was correct they can be had for $30ish now.

On the Walbro pumps I can do $95 on them.

I can get them. AK beat me to the reply.

I do have to buy 5 at a time to get a decent price on them.
I am biased because I sell them, but for two years before I ever started selling them I ran/run a Walbro on my 93. I even pump 160-180 degree WVO through it. Never had a problem with mine.
The only problem with after market LP's are, you then need to figure a way of tapping into the supply line. I personaly hate cutting my original fuel lines. The good thing is I offer a Lift Pump Bypass kit that will allow you to NOT have to cut your lines and make the whole mod a bolt in deal!!
You can carry your original LP for emergencies/back up.
On mine I cut off the connector off a bad pump then soldiered it to the Walbro LP. Allows you to just "plug and play" on the electrical and plumbing.
Let me know if I can help.

Im definately buying one of those when my napa job goes bad, sad part is my lines are already cut and rad. hose clamped together.....

I get one FRB5 --- laying on the shelf.
Just too lazy at the moment to make a bracket to hold the pump, and my 93 K3500 LP is doing almost enough for now---

Your losing your 6.5 Mojo Mutava!!! Get on your back, slide under that beast, and get that thing installed!

I too will be getting Walbro within weeks. And a pre-filter. (main reason I want walbro) stockers have trouble sucking pre-filters I read.

Then I'm ditching my un-accessable in-tank socks all together.

Taking my AC_Delco 93 year model LP and moving that to replace the killed Carter on my Auxiliiary (rear) tank to front tank pump.

Then I can install the new FSU in the rear tank. Havn't made up mind about rear tank sock yet. It'll probably go bye bye too into an unfiltered Lift pump....

I figured there would be more than three people on here running a Walbro FRB5.

Who else is running one of these?

How do you like it?

Thanks,

I ordered an FRB5 last weekend, waiting for it to arrive, should be here tomorrow or Tuesday.

Also adding a 12 micron filter/separator pre-LP setup I picked up at NAPA.

And this weekend I ordered fittings I need to do the FTB. No one stocks that 7/16-20 to -6AN fitting needed on the IP, and couldnt find a steel one. And steel 150 or 180 hose ends are not easy to come by either. I ordered some from Summit, but they are backordered, I got an aluminum one on the way though.

Perhaps you could put together a list of the fittings required for FTB? Or is that already on a FTB page?

There are right ups for FTB, mine might not be the same, I'm going to put in a 1/8" FPT block at the filter manager to put in the sender for the fuel pressure gauge. Dont know how its all going to go together just yet. And I liked Aces idea of not using barb on the filter manager, as it impossible to remove fuel hoses on barb without ruining the end, and its hard without cutting it in general.

If getting the Walbro FRB5, FTB and secondary filter seems logical.

Better to put a primary prior to lift, is more logical IMO, no need for a finer 2ndary will save the 5 micron on engine & save lift pump, with a coarse (10 or 20 micron).

Since going that route, it's been nearly 5 years since my last on engine filter change, & only (1) 10 micron change, and no lift pumps since installing
