Looking at 4-wheelers, maybe

I'd stay away from the older Polaris fourwheelers, but that's just me.

No way. That's too Old and too Small of an Engine.

Keep Looking.

Go with a Big Bore Utility, 700cc or Bigger, and Preferably one with Fuel Injection.

I can agree on older polaris machines...I have a 95 sportsman 400 4x4 (2 stroke)and it's had it's share of problems...more due to lack of use than anything...carb rebuilds...and 4x4 quits working...but most of the time thats just a fuse(the light bulb under the push button is the fuse) the system works off of electromagnets in the hubs...

I believe the magnum is 4stroke and less suceptible to the few problems I've had(motor wise)...I heard it had a lot of torque though...same 4x4 system though...

Now as far as being under powered...:skep:

mine will give the big bore models a serious run for their money...this thing is a monster when it comes to mudding and straight line speed...

but then again...I've got a new reed cage performance pipe and clutch springs(for the belt drive) and re jetted the carburetor for the mods done... it flat out flies and WILL hole-shot most big bore bikes and out run them if they are stock...and I've got taller Mud Machine Bi-Claws and Tri-Claws on it...not bad for 1/2 the cc's

but these are heavy and top heavy...not too good for running through twisting trails fast though...but thats more of a handling issue...

on edit: the radiator and electric fan is not adequate for severe heat mudding and a increasing the power...

I agree with staying away from older Polaris machines.

But size preference depends on how you are going to use it. If going big I would go with a Gator or similar. In many cases I prefer a 400 frame sized 4 wheeler. When we were in Colorado there were many places that anything bigger couldn't go.

The one guy that had a bigger machine - 600 IIRC - was left behind several times by the rest of us and had to be pulled out of the way once when he got stuck in the trail because he couldn't manuever. It must have been embarrassing to be outrun by a 160. Where he got stuck there was just enough room for him to drive with a steep drop on one side and a steep rise on the other. No place to give it some juice and risk sliding sideways.

From about '06-'07 all the Utility Quads (within the Brand) Share the same Frame from 400cc and Bigger.

Sure, a 220cc Quad could "get the Job done" but how hard are you going to be Working it? And what do you do if you get a Job that's too much for the Little Quad, but wouldn't be if you went with a 700cc or Bigger.

Hell, if the OP is Content with Trading his Truck for a Quad, he could prob. get pretty Close to a Straight Up Trade for a Used Renegade 1000 or a Used 800 and have the Best damn Quad out there.

A Gas Truck could get the Job done that most of our Trucks do too, but...why'd you get a Diesel?

The best damn quad doesn't do you any good if you have to cut down a tree every 300 yards to get to where you are going. LOl.

It's all in what you want and how you are going to use it. If I was getting something as big as a Gator, I'm going to get a Gator style machine

So, just to cut to the chase, what should I be looking for around 3500-4200 bucks? I'd like to get a utility 4x4, but my friends here have 4x2 racers, so is there something in between, or a utility that can handle keeping up with the others?
