A friend of mine has a 06 dmax and he made a trip this past weekend of several hours each way.. He said during the ride home the motor sputtered 3 different times during a hour's time then it never did it again..

He said it sounded like a valve opening and exhaust escaping, egr, turbo vanes sticking ?? He said the motor never changed tone and other than the sound he couldn't feel anything with the motor. This is the first time this has happened and I'm wondering if this is a preview of something coming...

Anyone seen this before ??

Vane position sensor failing can cause it, sticking vanes normally throw a code on startup, or when you apply a load to it and it moves the vanes. Could also be it's starting to suck air from the seals at the filter head, or the plastic fuel filters are WELL known to do this.
