This was a trial! 4th belt bought fits & is longer than any belt specified for 2000 Silverado 2500HD 6 liter. No idea why a longer than stock belt for 130 amp alternator is required. One step longer or shorter will not fit within small operating range of tensioner.
New alternator has output terminal closer to control terminals. Truck has short cables to alternator. Clocking alternator would not help. Output wire was spliced to reach output terminal. Proper wiring would be heavy longer cable with a ring terminal for stud on alternator and a strange large ring terminal for junction box at end of rocker cover.
No core charge for new alternator from ebay seller Total Power Parts. It is a pretty unit with several colors of parts. Test paper sent with it showed 177 amps, output ripple & more. Dashboard voltmeter quit wandering. DMM shows no significant voltage drop from alternator case to negative battery terminal. Consider totally replacing output cable. Tools needed: 8mm, 10mm, 15mm, crimper, 1/2" breaker bar. Grease the electric connections all!
Had I chance to do it again, 3 sizes of belts would be in hand at start.
