Spider gears. These are a weak link in an otherwise stout 3/4 ton rear diff.
Fixing a plow truck for a local hospital and one of the tasks on the laundry list was finding out why the rear was clanging and banging.
Well I found the problem captain. Also found that GM has an updated gear kit for this diff. Part # 12479321. Lists for $327.37 and can be had for the low low price of $241 thereabouts at a dealer. Stealer. But hey it's fixed. Kit will heal a 9.25" front IFS diff also.
Found 1 (one) donor diff at a local parts yard and it was a broken gov-lock.
The gears are way more beefy. Must be 'cause they're made in Canada.
