Truck has had this problem around 4 years, learned to lift foot slightly
just before shift point - now gotta relearn how to drive it!
Background: changed wheel cylinders and calipers this week, had trouble
getting firm pedal afterwards and found out the ABS had to be activated
to completely bleed it. And you need a Tech-2 to do that. :mad2:
So, went to the dealer today (BTW, call around if you need to go to a
dealer, ones near my house cost 99.00 for diagnostic fee, and after discussing
the autobleed with them, they didn't seem to be very knowledgeable.
found one about 45 minutes away that charges 75.00 diag. fee, and knew
exactly what I was talking about when I mentioned the bleed problem.)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Went to the dealer today, had them cycle the ABS for me, pedal got a
bit better, I may rebleed now that I'm sure there is no air in the ABS system.
But, some better news - I asked the service manager, "so I'm paying
for an hour of diagnostic time, correct? And the autobleed will only take
around 5 - 10 minutes, so let me tell you about my hard 1-2 shift".
He agreed to check it out - it started shifting hard occasionally about 4
years ago, and within a 6 month time span, progressed to shifting
hard every time it went from 1st to 2nd. Tried pulling the ECM fuses,
disconnecting batteries, didn't help. One transmission shop thought I had a
broken accumulator spring, another that one of the check ball holes in the
valve body had worn and ball was sticking. I didn't let them open it, I didn't
believe it was mechanical problem. Dealer I was at today had a tranny
guy that recalled seeing something about hard shifts, dug up a TSB from
1998! Said that reflashiing computer with updated code could help.
Did the reflash, put around 100 miles on it since, shifting smooth
as butter. Can't be sure it will stay that way, but definitely proves
it's not a mechanical issue.
With tax, I paid 86.00 for them to autobleed and reflash, not bad
just before shift point - now gotta relearn how to drive it!
