1994 chevy 3500 hd speedometer and odometer stopped working

94 chevy 3500 hd
350 motor 4 speed manual trans.
Speedometer and odometer stopped working. At first they would intermittently work then stopped all together.
I changed the speed sensor in transmission didnt help.
Anyone have any suggestions. Since this was a low volume truck for Chevy and the engine and drivetrain packages were not standard i was told that they used some sort of conversion signal box?
Does anyone know how i can trouble shoot this issue please.
 
Not sure on gas engines but the 6.5 uses a VSSB and IIRC the gassers has a similar looking box. They're mounted behind the glove box next to the PCM
