    California Smog

Welcome to my world ;) Not sure why I bought traffic reports for my GPS as lately all routes show red :(

    California Smog

You can actually do the speed limit on the way to the beach . . .? Seems that speed limits along the East Coast are now optimistic as either the sheer volume, or idiots whom treat them as optional and cause back-ups by swerving in dense traffic (or causing collisions), make average speeds close...

    California Smog

Watch the calendar for the two boat show weekends. Usually the last weekend in September and first in October, but not always. If you are looking for a boat, it will add to the reasons to visit. If not, steer clear as adding a ball game on top of the show makes for a rather crowded town.

    Oil type differences

Good run-down and have one question. 0W30 is actually straight weight and not multi-viscosity?

Just makes me wonder how that is a test when its application / enforcement is hardly standard . . .

    '99 350 7.3 delayed loping

Welcome to TTS! While not trying to steer away good members, these questions are likely to get even better responses on one of the 7.3 forums like PSN, PSA, and FTE. For the loping, am sure that connecting a good scanner to the OBD-II will help find out what the truck's computer is complaining...

    2014 Cruze Diesel

Am sure that you do not have to blame the kids as a justification to by the Cruze for eventually stuffing a DMax in it ;) So, admit it, that is the *real* reason you want this project; right? 😎

    2019 Silverado

Oh, and I just saw a new 150. While the exhaust still exits out the side, it routes close enough to the spare that there is a heat shield around ~1/4 of the tire. Am wondering which bean counter did the math on that one . . . So, lets see how long until other manufacturers copy-cat . . .

    2019 Silverado

Yeah, blowing out the bumper is not all that great for those hitching up a trailer . . . I do not care how 'clean' the exhaust is, having it blow in your face is just unacceptable 🤮 #1 mod of the Ferd's with straight-back exhaust is to turn it out the side. So, score 1 more for GM copying...

    scan tool

Another possibility is AutoEngenuity or the knock-off Tech-II. Both are about the same price. Advantage of the Tech-II is that it has a wider ability to work with the GM systems (IIRC, up to around 2012 vehicles). Advantage of the AutoEngenuity is that it has an ability to work with all the...

    Quadstar Tune

Appears that the truck might an aftermarket tune. OE tune for the computer wants to unlock the TCC when it senses a rapid throttle decrease. If the throttle decrease is gradual enough (whether by foot or cruise control), it will keep the TCC locked. Removing that 'check' in the box keeps the...

    Energy Suspension 3.1152 and 3.1171

Yes, 3.1152 is for the motor. One comment for awareness is that they take a bit to break-in. Specifically, when the motor shuts-off, they will make a clunk noise. This will go away after a few months. Cannot confirm on the tranny mount part number as the one I bought at the time was for the...

    Quadstar Tune

Yes, the PCM's code allows locking the TCC in 2'nd. At least it does for OBD-II. Cannot see where the pedal commander can lock the TCC on its own. Keeping the TCC locked on decel is an option in the OBD-II code. Toward whether to keep the TCC locked on brake application, this is not an...

Any news on the 3.0L I6 Duramax?

Definitely not arguing practicality of whether some people know how to load the weight . . . If that 150 was a bumper pull and squatting, was more likely a driver issue than the vehicle and, given the description, a lack of a WD hitch appears likely. Depending on the age of the 150, the older...

    Hayden 2886

I have used the 2886 / DMax fan combination. From what I could tell, the DMax fan did the job it was supposed to do. The 2886 was a bit more of a wild card. Remain convinced that first one I got (new) was stuck in a partially locked stage. Symptoms were that on hot days the ECT was lower...

Any news on the 3.0L I6 Duramax?

Seems to me that the marketing bar to beat is Ferd's 150. Weight rating is up to 18,100# GCWR for 2019.

Back from the brink...help me locate and build my next 6.5!

Here is how I did break-in. Some may say this is good, some may have other preferences / advice. Load the motor to ~75% power for short bursts and allow it to 'coast' for short bursts. Reasoning is to do a controlled heating / cooling cycling of the pistons to get everything to seat. I loved...
