DIY BD1 Programming - Burn your own chips!

Well I haven't decided if I want to become a vendor and produce/sell anything yet, but I do have a couple quotes out on having PCBs made. Trying to figure out exactly what my cost would be, estimate the market size, and what I'd need to charge to at least break even on the whole deal. Expect a...

DIY BD1 Programming - Burn your own chips!

Wow have I ever stirred up a hornets nest. I'm glad so many people are interested in this, and benefiting from my searching and such. Maybe I'll be famous forever, this can be called the "Drip Method" ... Or not :reddevil:

DIY BD1 Programming - Burn your own chips!

I would have no problem building adapters and burning chips for a little money. What does it taketo become a vendor?

DIY BD1 Programming - Burn your own chips!

After having put together all of the items needed for an OBDI programming setup, I could duplicate what I have for about $60. Using an even cheaper ebay burner (no win7 support, must have an XP machine), I could do it for $50. This is assuming you already have a computer of some type (aren't...

DIY BD1 Programming - Burn your own chips!

Wow, that library is perfect. What we're using are 64k files with a .bin extension. If we could get a sub category for obdi under 6.5, we would be in business. Thanks!

DIY BD1 Programming - Burn your own chips!

I was thinking something a little more sophisticated, keep a simple database with description, base image, uploader name.... something awful basic, but nicer than FTP . I just need to take a couple hours and write it all.

DIY BD1 Programming - Burn your own chips!

This is what I wanted when I started this thread. a sharing of ideas, more people involved. Maybe I'll build some kind of BIN repository for us.... Maybe not =)

DIY BD1 Programming - Burn your own chips!

I'm not worrying as much about fuel economy just yet. I'm getting 11ish, back and forth to work. Its 5 miles each way, with 18 stop lights. Extended cab dually truck. I can live with that. I usually dont drive more than 300 miles a month on average. And no, I don't know why I have a giant dually...

DIY BD1 Programming - Burn your own chips!

too much fuel. egts through the roof, coolant temps spiking. I have a theory on how to go about making a good economy tune (the process), but I would need an assistant, a couple tanks of fuel, and as much flat highway as i could get.

DIY BD1 Programming - Burn your own chips!

Actually I just posted all my tunes. They're up on my website, and it gets refreshed daily from my tuning laptop. the 8-1-12 tune is in the truck currently, but its too aggressive, I'll be burning the 8-2-12 when I get home this evening. The bins are available here...

DIY BD1 Programming - Burn your own chips!

Well, after 3 or 4 iterations, I have a chip burned that i'll run for a few weeks. upped a bunch of fuel (only over 60% throttle), added a little timing, then some tweaks on the TCC lockup, removing over/underboost codes. Upped the boost at higher RPMs as well. Too bad the GM-5 isnt quite...

DIY BD1 Programming - Burn your own chips!

the definition file I've been using (EC.xdf) has all of the transmission tables. How accurate they are, I don't know, but they're there. I found a definition and BIN file for a standalone 4L80E controller, and everything looks the same, so it can't be too far off.

DIY BD1 Programming - Burn your own chips!

Everything is in place. I've successfully burned chips, and they work. My total cost is something like $60-65, but I bought a TON of electronics components, mockup boards, etc to do other parallel projects with this one. As far as whats actually needed to get tuning, I bought a $45 eprom burner...

DIY BD1 Programming - Burn your own chips!

I feel like i'm hijacking this thread to talk about my OBDI tuning stuff, BUT ITS MY THREAD DAMNIT! Actually, I totally welcome the OBDII info, its nice to know. As far as my failure yesterday, I've managed to diagnose what went wrong. My first chip didn't work, everything else I did...

DIY BD1 Programming - Burn your own chips!

Yes actully, though I believe there are some hoops to jump through because the ECM on those puts the eprom on a little dedicated card. But software wise its the same thing, and the same eprom burner. I bought my burner for $45 on ebay. The DIY tuning forum on thirdgen.org should be able to...

DIY BD1 Programming - Burn your own chips!

SUCCESS. My eprom burner showed up yesterday, so I've had a number of advances, and a couple setbacks in the last few days. China eprom burner works great. All my adapters work. I even made a new one with a ZIF socket, that works too. I duplicated the two Moates adapters for a dollar a...

DIY BD1 Programming - Burn your own chips!

What I was referring to what taking apart the stock eprom carrier, and attaching a ZIF socket to make swapping the chips easier. I have an idea what I want to do with the programming itself. Definitely playing it safe, and adding gauges over time as I gather the hardware and knowledge I need...

DIY BD1 Programming - Burn your own chips!

without having a dyno at hand to allow me to tune and test drive at the same time, I most likely won't be making changes often enough to be much of an issue with swapping in new chips. I do have a zif socket on the way to make inserting and removing the chips much easier. I wanted an old chip...

DIY BD1 Programming - Burn your own chips!

I'm moving forward with this, slowly collecting what i need. I'm looking for a spare/old/extra OEM eprom from a 94-95. I don't care S vs F, manual vs auto, I just want a spare one to try an experiment on without disabling my truck. Whos got one in their glovebox after installing an aftermarket...

    HX40II Turbo Install

Why is it defueling? sustained overboost? Could do a boost fooler. Not an ideal fix, but it works. 10k resistor in the center wire of the MAP harness. computer sees ~2.5psi lower than is actually going on. Or adjust whatever boost control you're using to lower levels.
