According to NAPA the Silverados take standard power steering fluid.
Here is the write-up I saw:

Hope it was OK to post this thread. Apologies if I screwed the pooch.
Under the hood on the driver's side next to the fire wall up high there is a rubber return line w/ a spring clip holding it on. It's real obvious and the only one there. I removed the clip and hose, then attached a piece of clear 3/8" tubing 6.5ft long onto the fitting using a small hose clamp...
I was thinking I would do the diffs and power steering with the Amsoil. Problem is, my power steering fluid is 10 years old come May 2011, and I didn't want to wait another 10K miles to flush it when I do my diffs. I went to NAPA, Advance Auto didn't have the fluid that meets GM spec :dunno...
Ed,
I just changed out the xfer case oil with Transynd. I got a real good deal on the stuff, about $30 per gallon. Diffs are due in about 10,000 miles maybe then.
Thanks Marty! I'll check it out. I have really been looking locally but I am coming up empty! Matter of fact the local auto parts stores are having a hard time verifying that what they have on t he shelf meets GM spec. NAPA store called in the GM part # to where ever they call to, and was told...
I've been looking for synthetic power steering fluid and I was hoping that Valvoline was in the local parts store...around here it's NAPA and Advance Auto. Turns out Valvoline doesn't offer it anymore....bummer. So, what are you all using that's available?
Oh, BTW, I'll need enough to do a...
I agree. This is the point I'm trying to make. Don't make the current diesels bigger, make more diesels to appeal to a wider market. The more people that are driving diesels the more refining and development goes on. Fuel mileage is what's gonna bring the otherwise common commuter to the world...
In my opinion a diesel pickup with 400 HP & 700 + ft lbs of torque at 1600 RPMs is enough! If you need to haul/tow shit that requires more than that, you need a medium duty truck. What will drive the market...IMHO... is MORE people driving diesels. It's already tough enough to buy a pickup with...
I'll believe it when I see it....in a truck, idling, at the dealership. GM is too busy trying to get the most horsepower out of the current DMAX instead concentrating on things that really matter. Leave the power adders to the aftermarket. GM, what a bunch of marooons.
If the coolant hasn't ever been changed I would definitely do that, and have it flushed. Even though the manual indeed says 150K I would flush and change every 4 or 5 years regardless of mileage...but that's me.
I would also flush and replace the brake fluid. Lube door hinges, and the...
I've been out of he IT world for awhile, but don't you need a software package that allows you to back up to the NAS array? My nephew is a 3rd year electronics engineer, and is quite the geek. He talks about a product called BackupAssist which is a front end for the NAS. It ain't cheap tho about...
Thanks guys. I do hate moving away from the AC Delco filter, but it's just getting to hard to keep using it, and expensive. I am really trying to get out of the gotta do everything to the max mode, and start saving where I can without jeapordizing the reliabilty of the truck.
Any comments on...
I know that in my head that I can go longer, but I've been too long doing this way. I think that you are right about the UOA easing my mind, but really there have been a ton of guys posting their UOA results with the Rotella 15w-40 and many are going as high as 10K miles.
I feel much better...
That makes sense. I guess the weight of the oil in the upper engine while hot could push the oil in the filter out creating a syphon effect.
I will give Baldwin Tech Service a call and see what they say....thanks...
I've been using Rotella 15w-40 since it was new, I tried the Rotella 5w-40 syn once but since it comes in gallon jugs it was too hard to find the one quart bottles regularly. Around here it is hit or miss on whether or not the auto stores carry the products all the time, especially WalMart. I...
