Ceramic pads don't like to be over heated. When towing or hauling you the brakes will get hotter due to the increased weight they have to stop. I'd never run Ceramic's on anything that tows or hauls a heavy load. Both my rigs get Semi-Metallics. Some companies now make a "Severe Duty"...
My K-5 is pretty close to a mil spec blazer.
The mil specs had a Th400, Np208 and axle gears of 3.08:1.
My K-5 has an SM465, NP208 and axle gears of 3.08:1.
The Sm465 and Th400 have basically the same gears, save for you shift one manually. Only difference now is mine has the Banks kit...
If a part has a lifetime warranty it usually needs it. That's the only way they can justify selling it, because it's a huge pile of crap without the warranty.
I personally rebuild my own starters and alternators and run them up on a test bench before installation.
That whole "$250 for a...
It doesn't, trust me. I'm running a good bit of fuel on my K-5 with the Banks kit. Somewhere around stock 6.5 levels perhaps, with i'm guessing "C" code precups. It's a goodwrench crate, so i'm not sure if GM used one precup for all engines and just bolted EGR intakes on or what.
Under...
82-mid 83(left over redblocks) had the coarse thread injectors. mid 83 up to the end of the 6.2 had fine thread injectors. First there were long body injectors for trucks, and short body injectors for vans, due to clearance issues on the vans. Then the injectors went to all short length but...
If he unplugs the optic sensor the truck will go into limp mode and the light will still be on. My Optic sensor was dying, putting out intermittent signal, and i had the same results if i unplugged it.
same p0251 and p0370 codes, same engine symptoms(hard starting, coughing, stalling, very...
Neither of my trucks do it. My pickup used to clunk when being shut down. That ended up being the crank pulley. A new one solved that issue.
I'd look of the crank pulley and all the other pulleys for play/looseness with the belt off, or any strange noise when spinning(dry bearing, etc)...
P0251 and P0370 are optic sensor codes, more precisely.
Not so much to do with timing, but can be if you've got air in the fuel(you did change the filter after all), a bad optic sensor, and cloudy fuel causing the optic sensor not to be able to "see" it's reluctor wheel.
I had the same...
x2. The 599 block was originally a 6.2 block. It was bored over later on in life(92-93) to create the first 6.5 block. The "true" 6.5 cast blocks are the 141, 929, and 506 blocks.
Roller lifters don't care which hole. The only thing i'd be careful about is to put the pushrods back in the same holes they came from and the rocker shafts in the same spots. Just an FYI the copper colored end of the pushrod must face the rocker arm.
I've swapped many lifters around and...
The 6.2 Banks turbo was a T04B turbo which was non-wastegated. The 6.9 and 7.3 IDI banks kits used both the T04B early on, and later the TE06H wastegated turbo.
Negative on the clamps. The tygon is a very tight fit, to the point where you need a lubricant, like silicone spray, to get it onto the injector barbs for the first time.
Do Not buy the Napa kit. It's a re-branded dorman, and the lines are not diesel rated. Why they aren't diesel rated i don't know, but i can't see any other reason they fell apart from the inside out. I bought them, and they rotted away in less than 3 months, and 5,000 miles. At first it...
The spin on filter setup is better than the box style filter of 84+.
Here's how the fuel flows through the filters and lift pump.
From the frame mounted fuel lines it runs up to the filter on the firewall. Then it goes to the suction side of the lift pump on the block. From there it is...
Tim at Accurate is a great guy. He's helped me out a lot with issues, and calibrated/tweaked/tested the IP on my 6.2 for a good price.
I'd buy injectors from him based on his previous work with me.
I used a bottle a few days ago. had that same smell and color its had for years. Unless of course the bottle i got was old. Could you have gotten a bad bottle?
2 sets of Duraterms here. Personally I won't run anything else.
Actually pulled a set of 60Gs from my pickup and put the Duraterms in back in 2008. Same set still in there today.
Duraterms in the K-5 too. Those sometimes see the normal GP cycle and 10-15 seconds added time when it's...
Doubt it. Every one i've seen is Mexico or China, unless you can find one that's been sitting on the shelf since the 90s or so. Then maybe it would be US made, but even in the 90s stuff was made in mexico.
Worst case scenario the thumping is a rod knocking, and the turbo not turning is because it's seized due to lack of oil.
He should go into this with the notion that the engine is junk, as is the turbo because the description is vague. Don't pay more than scrap value for the truck.
Just my...
Strange thing i noticed when using the 2 quart filter on my K-5 after i turbo'd it.
It sounded as though the turbo was oil starved on startup. I switched to a 51060(stock 6.5 filter from WIX) and it stopped.
The filter on my K-5 hangs vertically as well. I think my main issue is that the...
