Guy on DP had a Predator for sale so I picked it up tonight. $200 shipped... good deal IMO.
In looking over all of the information and trying a few different tuners, I have come to the realization that for me, I very rarely if ever, get high enough into the RPM band to enjoy or realize the full HP/Torque of the pre-programmed tuners on the market. Is it possible to get a tune or tuner to maximize torque and HP prior to say 2600-2800 RPM's? I do not drive my truck that hard. I do not beat on the motor or transmission. I most always ease into the go pedal and hardly ever see the RPM's go that high. Only when I am in the tow haul mode do I get high RPM's. I personally would benefit greatly if I could ever get a low RPM power tune, but do not know if that is possible. I realize that this question has probably been asked a thousand times before and is the $64,000 dollar question of tuning, but I am just curious to hear from members here. Any insight is greatly appreciated. Thank you
Saw this in the LLY/LBZ forum so I figured I'd start one for us LB7 guys.:pop2: Programmer: Edge Juice / Attitude Average: 16.5:beer: (driving like me:D) Best: 23.4 (DIC showing 25mpg) Worst: 11 (Towing 24' Enclosed "V" nose car trailer w/ a headwind)
I just found this over at Diablos web site. This new update, in addition to adding support for 2010 applications, has 2 new adjustable parameters for Fuel Rail Pressure adjustment and Injector Timing adjustment. Timing can be added or removed in .5* increments, while pressure can be raised or lowered in 100 kpa increments. Is this for someone that stacks say the puck and the predator or will these adjustments be useful with just the predator? I know nothing about diesel tuning this is why I'm asking.
Now that I'm chasing wiring codes, I need to get ahead of myself and ask what programmer you guys recommend (tired of driving up to oreilly's to get a code cleared). So, I'm looking for something that will give me the best bang for my buck......and I prefer that the pile of bucks be as small as possible. lol My plans for this truck are exhaust, gauges, intake, programmer and slightly oversized tires with a mild lift/level - I've had trucks with 36" buckshots and 12" of lift - I'm too old for that now...well, at least my knees are.):h I tow my equipment trailer once or twice a month 7x20 tandem with tractor and implements about 8k #s total. I'll be purchasing a 5'er sometime next year. I've already had around 1200 miles of experience with a LBZ towing around 16,500 k with a very mild tune and stock exhaust and was totally impressed. I will not be racing, sled pulling or anything that extreme. Thanks Smitty
Anyone here use HP tuners on their Duramax ? My buddy and I recently purchased one , he does high perf. cars . I have found little to no info on the Duramax.
Hey guys I have been in hiding i guess for awhile, and not been around here much. SORRY. Well i have a question for anyone out there that has ever ran the 2004.5 LLY. My buddy wants to tune his truck (2004.5 LLY CCSB LS model, 265 tires S&B intake, MBRP turbo back exhaust) its red and mine is black only difference. I run PPE standard 5 levels and it rips, too much power and alot of smoke. Well when i put it in his it doesn't feel anything close to mine. Why would that be? It goes but not like it does in my truck. So why would that be and what other tuner out there will give him a lot of hp gain and may be s-o-f as well cuz he not real good with electronics lol. I have been lookin into EDGE CS for him, anyone know about it or should he stick with the PPE line or what others should I look at for him.
Is there any way to do this other than Send it back to Diablo to be Re-Programmed? I have a Tuner from my '03 Avalanche, that was NOT supposed to be VIN Locked, but when I Pulled the Tune Out when I Sold the Truck, it Stayed VIN Locked. Anyone got any Idea's?
I have a 06 LLY,I have a Diablo right now with AEM intake,4" turbo back Magna Flow.I have tried the Diablo on all the levels and it don't matter much if I drive it the same. When I first got the truck which was around 2 years ago.I tried a PPE and I love the tuner as far as the trans shifting and the power,I don't remember the mpg being that much better.I later sold it and ended up with a Diablo and the AEM and the Magna Flow.I had thought about putting the stock intake back on it and doing the mod.to it. I was wondering what's the best tuner for MPG?Should I put the stock intake back on. Thanks for any info,I know this has probably been brought up a time or 2 but I thought I would ask too.
Everyone complains about mpg in the winter and my PPE on lvl2 gives me the best mpg. I started messing around with the custom changes. I turned off the defuel and took the fuel out of all the tunes. I left the rpm increase in and the timing in. Level 2 felt a lot different than the normal 2 obviously. Better shifts and no power. So... in went level 4, 225 hp on mtr, with no fuel added and no defuel??? No idea what it lays down now... Better power and boost still hits around 28 psi according to the insight. At full throttle all the shifts are firm. Before, wot on the 160 tune with no changes, 5th and 6th gears would slip the tq. Now on level 4 flat footed its fine, no tq slip, obviously there is no fuel added and less hp. EGTs are waaaay lower also. Barely hit 1100* on lvl4... makes sense because of more boost and no fuel increase. Usually can hit 1700* fairly easy when rail psi drops. I would almost tow on lvl 4 with those changes. Also fuel pressure stayed where it should and never dropped like on the standard lvl 4 tune. This is what I have seen and understand so far....My questions now are...With these setups will I get better mpg than the standard fueled tunes? Is it better for the motor with just timing and boost added. How much HP is added with no fuel if any just from boost or timing? Finally is it safe to tow on lvl4 with no fuel added? Would lvl 1 with standard tuning put down more power than lvl 4...
I have a 2006 D-MAX with the LLY,Diablo,4"Magna Flow and AEM Cold air with 265/75/16. I have played around with the different levels but was looking some input? Thanks
As the title states: What is the BEST Tuner for my 99 GMC Sierra 3500 with Vortec 350? I keep seeing Hypertech and the Max Energy Programmer around. I also see the Bully Dog programmer. My goal (as of right now) is to increase performance and remove or increase the top speed limiter. Thanks for your input.
This is Hyperpac's live data, 90 h.p. tune running at 65 mph on the way to work. I'll get a picture of the Predator 85 tune maybe tomorrow to compare both side by side. Post your pics...!
I hoping someone can help me.While taking the banks out of my truck I pulled the connectors off,now I want to sell the banks but I don't know witch wire matches up with the other. If someone could ether tell me or take pictures of the connections it would be great.By the way I'm talking about the connections in the cab of the truck not the ones under the hood.
will im ready for a tunner for my lly and i did reading about alot them but dont no wich one to get, i dont tow alot i use my truck for work im a painter so there is not much lbs in the back. im looking to get more power but better mpg. what are you guys have or think i should get. and what is efi live? thanks for the info
I have been reading the threads for some time now hoping to find a clear cut choice for a tuner to improve fuel mileage. One thing I have noticed is the absence of comments on the Banks products. Is Banks a "bad" word??? Might as well ask the question again. Whats the best tuner for the money?? I did not say cheapest. Thanks
The banks six gun it the worst thing I ever bought for this truck:mad2: I know it is a good chip for a normal install if you are just going with a chip and stop. But all it does is throw tran slip codes and shut off. I need a EFI live programer bad. Can any one help? And where do I get the programs like the Idaho Rod tune or any other tunes. If I order the tuner is it blank and I make my own?
My buddy has a truck exactly like mine in the sig only his is red and has no tuner. he has exhaust, intake same as mine but he wants a tuner now. He wants alot of available power but he is leaning towards shift on fly kinda thing. Does anyone here like or no anything about quadzilla products? Has edge got their shit together? or what tuner would you guys recommend for him. I like my ppe but he doesn't think it took in his truck because mine pulls way more than his does when i load it in his truck. He was not too happy and why would it feel so different than it does in mine? Could mine have a tune in it that i don't know about since I did buy it used and now I am stacking so to speak? Anyways anyone on the tuners for his truck? Thanks guys.
Disclaimer: I do not have any affiliation with nor do I sell any product from any of the companies whose products are described below. Your results may vary. I have just completed phase one of a months long completely unscientific tuner evaluation. Thanks to Unit453 and Cougar281 for their trust and support. They will probably have their own thoughts and I would love to hear them also. The truck involved was an extended cab long bed 2006 Chevy Duramax LBZ. The one in my sig, running Cooper 285s on Procomp 16x8" wheels. Stock exhaust, and stock intake, Autometer Cobalt Boost and EGT gauges. The tuners involved were: Superchips FlashPaq, Diablo Predator, and PPE Xcelerator. PPE was only tested to level 4, I was afraid for my stock trans. I'll rank sotp/unscientific test evaluations.
How do you stack??? I've been reading your threads and see some are stacking 3 at a time. DON'T HAVE A CLUE!!!
